Frida
[Movies] @ 10:29 AM

Caught "Frida" yesterday night. Salma Hayek plays the role of Frida Kahlo, a strong willed Mexican painter of surrealistic work. It is an interesting movie, with various terrific scenes, including the surrealistic hospital surgery scene where Friday is operated on after the terrible bus accident early in her life. Salma does a very good job. As critiqued in Screen It:Hayek not only is perfectly cast for the part from a personality and physical perspective (even letting her normally well-plucked eyebrows grow together in Frida's signature mono-brow), but she also delivers a terrific take on the woman, equally and superbly hitting both the high and low notes.

Predictably, Salma Hayek has been nominated for Oscar under the Best actress in a leading role category. So, if you like biographical movies, do catch Frida. One warning, don't got with kids!
