Too many wisdom pearls to quote selectively!
"Blogging Explained to Old UNIX Hacks"

An interesting and slightly nostalgic post at Omri Gazitt's Weblog - "Blogging Explained to Old UNIX Hacks". God, that sure does bring back some nice memories.
I may not be as old as Omri but I was just in time to experience a bit of the "old Unix" air myself. When I came to NTU in 1996, dumb terminals were still prevalent and VMS was still the dominant player. Me and a couple of my friends at NUS used to "talk" away to glory and follow cricket matches in IRC channels, no, not mIRC, but plain simple commandline clients. Once in a while some of us even got promoted to channel admin and then we had fun kicking out people at our fancy. We used to have a forum for us "scholars" called Baatcheet. If any NTU junta is reading this, let me clarify that this was not even the web based Baatcheet at ignet.net, but Baatcheet on the VMS. I was almost going to be made the next admin when suddenly NTU decided to discontinue VMS 'cos Intenet had arrived and so had affordable personal computers.
Ahh, the old dot-matrix and daisy wheel printers' sounds are stirring themselves out of the lonely abode of forgotten memories.
