Reality check (two)

  1. Deflating The Blog Bubble by Oliver Willis
  2. BloggerCon Part Two -- my essayish opinion by Elisabeth Riba
Though these post above tend to agree with my perception on the power of blogs, I am confused by them at a different level. Did these people see the writing on the wall only after forking $500 for BloggerCon? I mean, did they really believe in the "raising consciousness on a global scale" power of blogs before they went to BloggerCon and are now whinning because they did not get what they were promised - techno-social nirvana?

Innovation my foot

Mark McLaughlin, Senior VP of VeriSign calls the introduction of SiteFinder innovation!
.. Internet itself, the infrastructure that serves as the foundation, has not significantly benefited from innovation. This is a significant test for the entire community because if the community can't find a way to introduce new services while reaching a resolution on technical matters that might arise, then the Internet infrastructure will never improve.

In retort, a comment at /. sums up the feeling on this side of the fence:

To call SiteFinder innovative is like cutting the wings off an airplane and saying that you've created an innovative new form of ground transportation.
