Just when I thought I had settled in for Pegasus as my Windows mail client, I came to realise that Pegasus does not have support for PGP/MIME and S/MIME. So it was time to change my mail client again!
Going though the list of secure mail clients and their support for PGP/MIME and S/MIME, I finally decided on Mozilla Thunderbird. My earlier reservation of the installation being too adhoc has been resolved by using the installer distribution rather than the Zip file distribution. GPG support (along with the MIME support) is provided by Enigmail. I had some problem installing Enigmail the typical way. You have to follow the Thunderbird specific installation process.
Enigmail sits well with GPGShell too. PGP/MIME can be turned on by default or can be turned on individually for each email. This I am able to use Thunderbird to send emails to my friends whose email clients may not support PGP/MIME.
As for converting Pegasus mails to Thunderbird, I followed the helpful hints here, using Mail Converter to convert from Pegasus to Netscape format and then just copy the files into the relevant profile directory.
[Update] and now we have Thunderbird 0.5 too!
