Hotmail does not filter 'Subject' field data
[Security]
@ 10:35 AM
Malware.com is reporting that Hotmail.com does not perform HTML filtering of data in the 'Subject' line of an email when a user attempts to reply to it, thereby allowing an attacker to execute scripting code on target user's browser. "The code will originate from the Hotmail site and will run in the security context of that site."
A demonstration exploit subject line is provided in the Source Message. In the exploit, the subject line contains an iframe that points to malicious code, but the iframe reference is at the end of a long subject line so that the target user may not be able to readily view the reference. The malicious code (in this example) displays a Hotmail sign-in page but sends the authentication information to a remote site.
