First impression of Amsterdam
[Misc.] @ 04:15 PM

Now that I have regained control over some of my senses, I can speak about my first impression of Amsterdam. It is a very nice little city (not too large, not too small) with a lot of beautiful canals (though the water is not that clean). The people here are wonderfully helpful and courteous. It rains and it is cold and windy but friends assure me that things will get better for the next couple of months before climaxing in the bitter, depressing cold of December. I guess Andy was not joking when he said:

I like the weather--dull gray and drizzly most of the year. Great weather for being indoors with a warm computer.

Things are generally more expensive than I wish it would have been, especially food. As such, most of my diet is restricted to bread and variant of it. For now, I am staying in the University "Hospitium", about four stops away from the Univ., and sharing my office with three other PhD. students and post-docs.

Snap of my office and hostel room. More snaps of Amsterdam in my slowly growing Amsterdam album.
