Video iPod, an overreach?
[Technology] @ 05:39 PM

Phillip Swann, president of TVPredictions.com seems to think so. But in reality what he seems to be isolating out is the use of the Video iPod as a tool to watch the episodes of a programs like Lost and Desperate Housewives. He completely misses out the other use, watching music videos. Not surprising, considering the fact that his knowledge seems to lie in the TV domain.

Those who think teenagers won't use video iPod a shot to watch their favorite video of Alicia Keys, Eminem or whoever, is too isolated from their world. Think of how much fun they can have by plugging in the TV-out of the iPod into a projection screen in a dance party! Every time I get into a public transport in Amsterdam and recently in London and Ipswich, I try to glance around to find out how many of the riders are jacked into an iPod and who they are. Invariably they are people below the age of 25 or so. That segment itself is a big market for the video iPod.

Swanni also says:

And, as for the feature that enables you to connect the iPod to a TV so you can watch a downloaded ABC show on the bigger screen, why would anyone do that? You could instead simply record the show the night before on a DVR. And the DVR recording can be done for free (after the monthly subscription); no $1.99 download fee required.

Ya, right! Given the kind of pressure the content companies have been putting on pushing the Broadcast Flag, no DVR is going to obey your command/request.

Addentum - Or, as Eric Rice (co-founder of Audioblog.com) sums it well:

No one wants to watch video sized at 320 pixels, you'll say. To that, I'll just tell you to keep it down.

I'm watching.

InSight license change
[Website] @ 05:00 PM

The license governing the use of material on my photoblog InSight has been changed to a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 2.5 License . with an additional condition that you must notify the copyright owner (me) about the usage of the material by email at the email address shown on the page

Update: After exchanging emails with couple of people who knows more about this stuff than I do, and also clarifying it in the CC mailing list, I have decided to drop the additional condition imposed earlier. I just added a small note after the license clause, stating:

Though not a part of the licensing terms, it would be really encouraging for me if you could email me, at the email address shown below, if you decide to use any of my material.

Welcome Desipundit, to my exclusive list of blog on which I would like to comment, but will not, until your spam protection system allows comments from Tor nodes. As before, 'Spam Karma' is to blame.

Update: - the Pundit has gone and updated the plugin to Spam Karma 2 and things seems to be working better now! Thank you guys.

I have been catching up on the recordings at IT Conversations and would say it is well worth the time to listen to these guys:

Abdul Kalam a scientist?
[India] @ 12:31 AM

How would you describe APJ Abdul Kalam - a scientist, a researcher, an administrator or an engineer?

Who is worthy of the title of a “scientist”? Wikipedia defines scientist as:

A scientist is a person who is expert in an area of science and who uses scientific methodology in researching that area.

Was Dr. Kalam an expert in his area. I would say yes. Did Dr. Kalam conduct research? I don’t know for sure, but from what little I know, he did not.

The discussion continues.
