Personal data, remote host
[Security] @ 09:21 PM

Some people are slowly beginning to question the sensibility of hosting personal data like bookmarks, todo lists, emails etc. in environments not owned by the user. I had discussed this a couple of months ago and like then, I still find myself very reluctant to remotely host my data.

Most of my emails are sent to this domain, that I download on to my laptop (and backup elsewhere). I stopped using GMail for almost everything. Most mailing lists I subscribe to in my Yahoo! account either have public archives or are hosted on Yahoo! itself. I do not use any of the todo list managers like Tada or Remember the Milk. I do not store my bookmark at del.icio.us, though I visit the site regularly for my fix of new discoveries :) As for Flickr, I have not even opened an account with them since PBase.com provides excellent service.

So, ya, I guess you say I am a bit paranoid!

Why would anyone want to name their company TrollTech? For that matter why "DVD John"? It has some weird similarity with 'Jack the Ripper', as if he started killing people with DVDs. Yucks.
